Event Date : Thursday 20th April 2017

This is my 3rd blogger meet up event, and this was held at the Glasgow restaurant Topolabamba.

This time I created a private group on Facebook, where everyone could see the details and select if they were going or not. So this time round I was a little more organised and professional than before.

If you are a blogger in Glasgow, doesn’t need to be food it can be any please feel free to contact me and I can send you an invite to the group.

I was looking forward to this event, as I managed to invite a lot more people and also Topolabamba does good food.

Unfortunately there were a lot of cancellations, due to many different reasons so tonight was just a very cosy crowd. This has got to be expected at any event, hopefully my 4th will have more

On to the food….

Chicken Tinga Quesadillas £4.95

D1499BDD-9D4D-4EF4-938F-ECD556E2ED10

I have never ordered these and saw that they were a little spicy, so I asked the waitress how spicy they were and she sold them to me as they sounded nice.

I don’t like mega spicy things, so when it arrived I knew this would either be really nice or too spicy and I wouldn’t enjoy it….Lucky it was the first.

This was really good and full of flavour, the spice on a scale of 1 to 10 was only a 1 to a 2 for me which was perfect.

I would order this again!

Portion Size : 5
Flavour : 5
Presentation : 3.5

Shredded Beef Burrito £6.95

I had this the last visit, and thought would try again as I really liked it. Its very filling, and again packed with flavour. Again like last time the sauce with it, it didn’t do anything for me so I left it as the Burrito on its own was better without it.

Portion Size : 5
Flavour : 4.5
Presentation : 4

Extra : I did also order the Smoked Chorizo & Quesos Quesadillas but I ate them before I remembered to take a photo so next time I will comment on them.

I had to have the same dessert as I had on my last visit, as it was so so good since I have a very sweet tooth.

Mexican Chocolate Cup £4.95

I needed my chocolate burst tonight and this was the fix.

This is a thick chocolate mousse, that is very chocolatey and perfect if your like me and have a sweet tooth.

Portion Size : 5
Flavour : 5
Presentation : 5

Overall :

Overall a nice night where we had laughs and good food, as I said unfortunately a lot cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances but it was a nice evening.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the waitress tonight, her name is Nicole and she was very helpful and very pleasant so a big thank you to her from all of us.

I have been to Topolabamba once before this visit, and I enjoyed the food, drinks and atmosphere but one thing really put me off…..the background music was too loud so loud I was shouting over the table to my friend.
I recently decided its time to go back for a second try and see what I think, as I like to give a place at least to visits before I decide I will 100% return or never again.
Visit Date : Sunday 19th February 2017
On entering we were shown to our table, and sat down.
The first thing I did notice was the music was at a good level, I could heard my girlfriend across the table and she could hear me (don’t know if that was a good thing)
The second thing I noticed was the restaurant looked a lot better, it was missing a few things from the walls that were there last time. So all the little changes were noticed and an improvement.

Starter :

QUESADILLAS : (Except Chorizo) (Not GF) (Large soft tortilla stuffed with a filling of your choice & toasted)

Crab, Shrimp & Sweetcorn : £5.95

Unfortunately when I imported my photo it went corrupt, don’t know why as never happened before so I will try and get another one when I have this again.

This was a nice sized starter, you get two finger sized portions.

The flavour was very nice, the crab came over more than the shrimp and sweetcorn for me. The tortilla was just crispy, so it was good as sometimes they can be very crispy at other restaurants and flake everywhere.

Main :

BURRITO : (Not GF) AVAILABLE AS NAKED BURRITO (Flour tortilla stuffed with green rice, black beans, pico de gallo, queso fresco cheese & your choice of filling)

Shredded Beef : £6.95

The last time I had a burrito was at Poco Havana, so I had that to use as a comparison.

This was a really good size, and I could see it was packed.

I really wanted to say I enjoyed one more than the other, but here and Poco Havana were very good. This also was fully of flavour, cooked very well and was very filling.

Sweet :

Mexican Chocolate Cup : £4.95

Topolabamba Glasgow : Mexican Chocolate Cup

There is always room for something with chocolate….

This was like a chocolate mousse, very sweet and a good texture…..this was bliss.

This was really nicely presented, and the cream on the top just added that little extra to the presentation and flavour.

I would have this again!!! mmmmm

Cocktail :

Jalisco Blue £7.00
El Jimador Reposado, Blue Curacao, Lemon, agave Syrup, fanta orange

This was a very refreshing and very very tasty cocktail, I really want this again when I return.

Overall :

Overall my second visit was a lot better than my first.

I have this big issue that if I have to shout to the people or person I am with over the music, you won’t really enjoy the time at the restaurant or the atmosphere. Tonight the music level was good, so I really had a nice time and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Food was nice, I enjoyed it and will try something different when I return.

Back at Poco Havana Glasgow : Review

Website : www.pocohavana.com

A colourful, vibrant basement bar/restaurant featuring the best of Cuban, Mexican and Spanish cuisine. Mixed in with our sunshine-vibe cocktails, quality craft beers and eclectic mix of great tunes, our Poco Havana is the finest corner of Cuba in Glasgow

Visit Date : Saturday 4th January 2017

Most of you that have been following this blog know i’ve been to Poco Havana a few times, you can read my previous reviews here and here

I have been hitting the Glasgow restaurants very hard recently, and spent a little more than I wanted. When I recently came across an itison voucher that I purchased a while back, and noticed that it was expiring soon so I thought lets head back and use it for a cheap weekend dinner.

My voucher was for two mains, so I will still show the cost of the dishes so you know what they would have been.

Main Course :

Chipotle Pulled Pork Burrito 12″ £8.95 (normally but I had the voucher)
“FILLED WITH ZINGY CITRUS RICE, REFRIED BEANS, GRATED MONTEREY JACK CHEESE, SALSA, SOUR CREAM AND YOUR CHOICE OF FILLING IN A 10” OR 12” FLOUR TORTILLA”

This was the first time I have had a Burrito at Poco Havana, so I was looking forward to seeing how they did them and also how it tasted.

I know in my recent previous posts I said I would try and be more critical and not always say it was really good, well this was really really good. With every bite I had my mouth was bursting with flavour, and I could have easily had another.

Sorry I didn’t show how it looked inside, I was enjoying it too much it was finished before that thought pop’d in my head.

Cocktail :

Again I have had a few cocktails here in the past, so I decided to try something new.

Frozen Margarita/Daiquiri £13.50
“Sharing jugs of our classic Margaritas and Daiquiris”

IMG_5041.jpg

My girlfriend and I opted for the Mango one.

As you can see from the photo, you get a large amount since its a sharing jug. You get about 2 glasses full each from this, so its really worth the money.

Overall :

This was a very enjoyable visit, I felt very relaxed and enjoyed the food and cocktails.

Poco Havana have had a few deals on itison, so if you want to check it out but worries about trying somewhere new then this is the option for you.

The staff have always been very friendly and very helpful, and if you like burritos then you should check Poco Havana’s.
